Shadow Mountain

Having lived in the house for a number of years and completed a few remodels along the way, the homeowners were faced with the question of tearing down or one final remodel to solve the remaining issues. With the addition of space to accommodate storage and utility needs and a reworking of the main level spaces, the bones of the house gave us a great background to start with.

A two-story addition to the side of the residence provided space for an enlarged laundry, family entry and pantry space as well as a lower level storage room. Although the majority of the kitchen was kept intact for budget purposes, we redesigned the hood and refrigerator cabinets to allow a more natural flow to a new walk-in pantry. The windows and doors in all of the common areas were raised from standard 6’-8” to 8’ lifting the brow on the expansive views toward the green belt.

The covered deck accessible to the kitchen and living space was replaced and enlarged to accommodate more seating and unlimited views. The front entry needed a refresh and was perhaps the boldest move to take the architecture into the 21st century. We removed massive stone columns and wooden pergola elements and replaced with a light steel structure. The new entry door and enlarged front windows open the house to the front yard and serve as a welcome to guests.
