Harris Boulevard

The original, over-sized galley kitchen was inefficient and lacked the architectural character found in the rest of the home. Without changing the footprint, we were tasked with creating thoughtful storage, bar seating, counter space and usable work zones, and increasing the amount of natural light and view. Influenced by the existing window-lined dining space, we continued the clerestory windows and strategically located the backsplash windows that, when combined with a lush bamboo hedge, minimized visibility of the adjacent neighbor. The resulting kitchen feels much like a garden oasis, satisfying their need for openness and privacy. By enlarging the openings to the dining and living spaces, we increased the visibility of the expansive windows, opened up the stairs, and accommodated a more spacious circulation path to the backyard. The updated mid century aesthetic is visible in the slab front walnut cabinetry, modern lighting, and overall minimalist detailing.
